
A native of Fairfax County, VA, Dr. Mark A. Stickney is currently the Director of Bands at Southern Utah University, in Cedar City, UT. At SUU, he teaches conducting, music education and applied low brass. Dr. Stickney directs the Wind Symphony and Brass Ensembles.
He has held conducting positions at Oklahoma Panhandle State University and has served on the brass faculties of Salve Regina University and the Community College of Rhode Island, where he taught trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Dr. Stickney has conducted throughout the United States. He is an active clinician and guest conductor. The groups he has worked with include the Ocean State Youth Symphony brass section (RI), Gettysburg College Symphonic Band (PA), the Weber District Honor Band (UT), and the Fisher Middle School Bands (CA). He guest conducted the Rutgers Wind Ensemble at their Carnegie Hall debut in 2005. Under his baton, the Southern Utah University Wind Symphony was recently selected to perform at the Utah Music Educators Convention. An active performer on Tuba as well as trombone, Dr. Stickney has performed with The American Band, Fanfare Brass Quintet, The Narragansett Tuba Quartet, The Rutgers Wind Ensemble, The Las Vegas Brass Band, and the Orchestra of Southern Utah. As a soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Stickney has performed throughout the United States, including a performance at the Newport Music Festival in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and Religion from Gettysburg College, a Master of Arts Degree in Tuba Performance from Montclair State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Wind Conducting from Rutgers University.
